After the success of the County Council by-election hustings in July 2018, The Parish Council organised hustings for both Breckland and Yaxham elections at Yaxham Village Hall – Breckland election on the 12th April and Yaxham Parish election on 17th April.  All the candidates were invited – sadly the same candidate failed to respond to these invitations.  However, the public did respond with nearly 60 electors at the Breckland Hustings, and almost 70 at the Yaxham Parish Council hustings – i.e. over 10% of the voters registered in Yaxham.

For Breckland, the candidates attending were: Paul Claussen, Conservative; Lizzie Hunton, Labour; and Ian Martin Conservative.

For Yaxham Parish, the candidates attending were: Anthony Cheetham, Chris Couves, Bob Gust, Peter Lowings, Ian Martin, Maggie Oechsle, and Richard Whadcoat.

Each candidate had the opportunity to say a few words to introduce themselves.  There was then questions and answers, followed by the candidates making a short closing statement.  Both meetings lasted the best part of 2 hours, showing the level of interest in the elections in the village.
